For Summer 2012, this is my go-to table white wine. I just bought a case of this at a recent tasting put on by Summit Distributing. It’s a direct import, so it doesn’t arrive on the boat until June, giving me plenty of time to keep drinking red wine as we slowly transition to warmer weather. I don’t mind the rainy days and nights, I find it romantic, and a great excuse to curl up with a full glass and a good book.
Soave Classico DOC is a sub-region of Veneto, in the north-east of Italy, near Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet fame. Romantic, indeed. Made from 100% Garganega grapes, this is clean and crisp, refreshing and flinty with an abundant minerality of cement and white stones. It has some citrus and mango notes, but I was drawn more toward the mineral undertones that will freshen up any palette. I am reserving this for those hot days and nights on a deck or patio with a group of friends, abundant food and good conversation. This wine has enough acidity to hold its own with spicy ethnic dishes, cool pasta salads, seafood, and pizza. Get ready to get out the grill!
